We arrived back in Dartmouth on Tuesday, August 21. Our temple week was shortened due to a trip to Newfoundland. We left on Friday, August 24th. Wednesday and Thursday was making sure that things were up to date at the temple. Sister Vince Vincent and Sister Mary Lee Webster) would run the office in my absence! They did an awesome job. It was hard to leave knowing that Friday and Saturday were the last 2 days before the Temple closed for it's semi-annual cleaning, the days were busy and I'm so thankful to them.

We were asked by President Leavitt to accompany him to St John, Newfoundland for a District Conference there. We would go representing the Temple Presidency. The Robinson's had already left for a trip to the states, and the Webster also left for the states on Saturday. President and Sister Veinot need to remain here as they were in charge of the temple cleaning. I spoke at a Saturday evening meeting, and Elder Edwards spoke at the Sunday session. Elder Edwards also sang- the congregation sang the first to verses of "How Great Thy Art" and he sang the last 2 verses solo! He did a terrific job!

We had an hour+ flight from Halifax to St John. Sister Vincent got up early to have us to the airport on time. She is such a blessing in our lives! She picked us up upon our return also.

President Leavitt was busy with visiting Elder and Sisters and doing District President interviews.

Friday night we prepared to go on a boat tour of the area, out into the North Atlantic, storms prevented our going on Friday night, but we were able to go on Saturday morning. Elder and Sister Pierson, another senior couple that are nearing the end of their mission also came like us. Sister Pierson spoke during the Saturday afternoon meeting with the Relief Society/Primary/Young Women Leaders.

We accompanied the Pierson's on this boat tour, it was kind of a farewell gift to the Pierson's from President Leavitt.

The trip was so very much fun! The North Atlantic was a little bit ruff, we had 3+ foot swells, they tossed around pretty good, but we all held on and laughed alot.  it made me think of what it must have been like for Lehi and Nephi and others that traveled to the Americas by boat.

Saturday afternoon was busy with meetings, and in the evening the members put on a talent show, we all laughed alot and had a great time.

Sunday was the main meeting of the District Conference. The spirit was so strong as these 2 branches met to be taught by their leaders and had time to renew friendships.

Meeting over the Pierson and us went out to do some on land sightseeing! We saw several of the sights that we had seen from the boat tour. Cape Spear is the farthest most eastern place in the Americas. It was windy, but wonderful.
I seem to run out of superlatives to describe Atlantic Canada and its people, everything is wonderful, but we are so very impressed and so in love with both.  Pictures to follow.

Elder Edwards had some problems in mid-August. To get into a dentist here would have cost over $200 and that's just to get to be seen. So we decided that we would need to go to Maine. We found out that there was an LDS dentist in the Caribou ward who agreed to see Elder Edwards.  Heavenly Father guided all the events to help us get to Maine and back. President Leavitt, mission president, needed a Sister missionary picked up from Truro, Nova Scotia and transported to Hampton, Nova Scotia to the Sisters there- we could help him, by helping with that transfer. No problem, of course, we didn't take into consideration all the luggage she would have, but somehow we got it all in the car and her! We enjoyed visiting with her on the way to Hampton. Once we had her and her stuff in Hampton, we headed to St Stephen, Nova Scotia- its right next to the US Border. The Tibbets are our newest senior couple, the offered us a bed (air mattress) to sleep on and food to eat. The bed and food were wonderful. They are settling into their area and they love the place and people already, they are great missionaries and I know the Lord will bless their willingness to serve. President Leavitt also asked that we check on 2 apartments with Elders while we were in Maine. By inspecting these apartments and transporting the sister, he agreed to cover our gasoline expenses for the entire trip.

Dr Smith was the best. He filled a tooth, and pulled a tooth for Elder Edwards, he refused to let us pay him, he said that he and his family received blessings from helping the missionaries! Another blessing!

We had fun stopping at a US Walmart and getting some of the brand name foods that we miss up here in Canada. We got some Bushes Baked Beans, some Prego Spaghetti Sauce, and some Pace's Picante Sauce to name a few.

Elder Edwards healed from the tooth extraction very well, very little bleeding, and he just was careful with what he ate for several days.

Our trip was from August 19-21st. It was great and how thankful we are for the Lord's many blessings!!

Nova Scotia has a lovely visitors information center at the border, this is a picture of one of its lovely gardens.

The trip to Yarmouth was July 29-31st. August 5th found us on the road again this time to Bathurst, Brunswick.  Again we are going at the request of President Leavitt to check out the Elders Sunday was a mixture of both languages. It was very humbling to be there, the spirit was so very strong. One of the sweet sisters speaks very little English. When Elder Edwards got up to bear his testimony in French, she was in tears, it had been over 6 months since she had heard someone else bear testimony in her native tongue.  I also braved my nerves to bear testimony also and use the 3 sentences that I know in French. They translate to say, "Hello, my name is Sister Edwards. I speak very little French. I am a temple missionary in Halifax.)  I am working on 2 new sentences. "I know that Jesus Christ lives". Also "I know that the Book of Mormon is true." Relief Society was in a small class room and had 6-7 sisters there. Sacrament Meeting was about 20-25 people. One of the near-by Elders blessed the sacrament and his companion passed it to the congregation.  It was truly a touching experience.

Can you see those Utah license plates that stick out here in Atlantic Canada! This is the apartment building the Elders live in. It has recently been completely renovated- you can see the work is not quite completed.

July 2012 trip to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia:  Pesident Leavitt asked us to travel to Yarmouth and check out the elder's apartment there. We had a lovely 2 days. We left in time to go thru rain coming home. Yarmouth is about 4-5 hours from Dartmouth where we are staying.
